Family History:
In 1640 Richard was taxed in Scituate, MA. In March 1643 he was admitted freeman at Scituate, MA and later that year moved to York, ME, where he was appointed Mayor for that year and the next. Richard and Thomas Curtis shared the lot of Thomas Chambers. On July 19, 1645 he was granted 20 acres of land in York. He served as Provincial Councilor in 1651 and 1652. He was often Selectman, Trial Justice and Court Appraiser from 1653 through 1680. He sold some land in York on May 7, 1664. He served on Grand Jury 1669, 1672, and 1679. He served as Overseer of York County Prison in 1673.
