Family History:
During the 30 Years War with Prussia and Austria, Jan Fransse emigrated Husum, Germany to Amsterdam, Netherlands. In 1639 he immigrated to New Amsterdam. He was a commissioner of lands for the Dutch West India Co. and was an early settler of Ft. Orange, New Albany, New York. Jan, a Lutheran, was an early resident of Fort Orange and Beverwyck, immigrating in 1645. On June 5, 1662 he bought from the Indians for 500 guilders in beavers at Claverick about half the present county of Columbia including the city of Hudson. Letter of administration for Jan's estate were issued to his son Jurriaan on August 02, 1703. The surname Van Hoesen changed to Van Hoosen when the family moved to Pennsylvania, then to Van Hoose. The North Carolina branch uses Van Hooser, while Van Huss is pevalent in Washington & Lee county, VA and in Carter & Johnson county, TN. Collections on History of Albany:
Van Hoesen (Hoesem), Jan Franse, an early resident of Fort Orange and Beverwyck; 1662 bought land at Claverac of the Indians; d. about 1667. His w. was Volkie Jurriaanse, sister of Annatie Jurriaanse, w. of Andries Herbertsen Constapel; after his death she m. Gerrit Visbeeck. Letters of administration were issued to his son Jurriaan, Aug. 2, 1703. The following children were living in 1694: Jurriaan eldest son: Jacob; Volkert; Johannes (an old man in 1724); Anna w. of Luykas Gerritsen; Styntje, w. of Jan Tys Goes; Marya, w. of Hendrick Coenraetse; Catharina, w. of Frank Hardingh. [The Van Hoesens were Lutherans, hence but few of their children were registered in the Reformed church Doop Boek.]

VAN HOESEN, Johannes or Hannes, of Kinderhoek, Claverac 1720, m. first Jannetie Janse De Ryk, and secondly, Willempie Viele, wid. of Livinus Winne June 19, 1709. Oct. 24, 1724 he conveyed certain property to "my two sons Gerrit and Jacob who have dutifully assisted and supported me in my old age" he spoke also of "my father Jan Franse Van Hoesen" and my brother Jurriaan V.
