Van Vechten, Teunis Dirckse
Family:Family History:Teunis immigrated aboard the "Het Wapen van Norwegen" with his wife, child, a black man and a black woman. They arrived in New Amsterdam, Long Island, NY on August 04, 1638 and relocated to the farm he had leased from patroon Killian van Renselaer in Greenenbosch, NY. In 1641 the patroon complained that the farm was too large and Teunis might not be cultivating all of it, but by 1644 he was delivering grain to the Dutch West India Company and his farm was listed as "one of the best". In 1646 he leased "Hoogeberch" farm and was still living in the area in 1663. Collection on History of Albany:Van Vechten, Teunis, Cornelise [Dirkse ?] succeeded Michael Jansen on his farm in 1646, and lived in 1648, in the south end of Greenbush. O'Callaghan, Hist. N. N., I. In 1662, one Theunis Cornelise is called Young Poentie. VAN VECHTEN, Teunis Dirkse, alias Poentie, came out in 1638 with wife, child and two servants, in the Arms of Norway and had a farm in 1648 at Greenbush north of that occupied by Theunis Cornelise Van Vechten; he is referred to in 1663 as an old inhabitant her. Jannetie Michielse; made his will April 4, 1687, proved March 30, 1703; d. Nov. 25, 1702. The following children are mentioned in his will, Jannetie, b. 1660; Wyntie, b. 1662; Michiel, b. 1664; Neeltie, b. 1665; Johannes, b. 1667; Teunis, b. 1669; Annatie, b. 1671; Fytie, b. 1672; Samuel, b. 1673; Sara, b. 1675; Abraham, b. 1679. VAN VECHTEN, Samuel [son of the last] made his will Dec. 3, 1739; spoke of his father Dirk Teunise deceased who purchased, Oct. 20, 1681, of Stephen Van Cortland, a tract of land at Catskil, confirmed March 21, 1686, which land was afterwards made over to me and my brother Johannes, deceased, by my brothers Michael, and Abraham deceased by deed of March 30, 1715, and my brother Johannes, share was made over to me by deed, 9 Aug. 1721, all which I am now seized of, &c..... gave the use of all his real estate at Catskil to his nephew Teunis, son of his brother Johannes during life; the said estate to pass to said Teunis's lawful heirs and soon from heir to heir "to the end of the world!" The above will was recorded April 15, 1741. VAN VECHTEN, Gerrit Teunise, of Colony Rensselaerswyck, m. first, Antje Janse; and secondly, Grietje Volkertse, dau. of Volkert Janse Douw. In 1678 he and Jan Conell bought Capt. Jan Clute's claim in lands at Catskill: 1680 bought of Gerrit Van Slichtenhorst, a negro man named Dick for 150 pieces of nooten-hout: also another negro named Harry for 200 skipples of Indian corn, two loads of hay and 24 beavers in hogs; 1697 petitioned the governor in favor of his brother who had accidentally killed a child of Col. Schuyler. In his will made March 8, 1680-1, he spoke of wife Grietje and two sons Johannes, by the first w. and Volkert, by the second.
