Family History:
Richard, of Salisbury, "planter" or "husbandman;" freeman 1641; recd. land in the "first division," 1640, '44, and '54; "commoner" and taxed 1650 and '52; signed articles of 1654, petition of 1658, etc. He prepared his will Jan. 26, 1649 and it was proved April 14, 1668. On July 24, 1669 "I, Thomas Jones, of Gloster, formerly of Cape Ann, have received of Ursula North, of Salisbury, Norfolk Co., widow and executrix, oe339;5., a lagasie given unto Mary, my wife, by her father Richard North of Salisbury, decd." The receipt was acknowledged, April 29, 1673, before Salisbury Court, ye 2d. session. Ursula prepared her will May 19, 1668 and it was proved April 11, 1671. Susanna Martin and Mary Jones were the only living children of Richard North in 1672 and '74 and it would appear from court records (MA General Archives, office of Secretary of State, at the State House, Boston, Vol. 16, pp. 9, 10) that Ursula was the step mother of Susanna and Mary.
