In 1900 John, born Mar 1859 in IN, 41 year old boiler maker, married 18 years, immigrated 1854 and owns his own house with a mortgage; Catherine, born Feb 1860 in Germany, 40 year old, married 18 years, having given birth to 5 children, 4 of whom are still living {Maria Catherine died}, immigrated 1866; Joseph, born Sept 1884 in IN, 15 year old; Margaret, born June 1886 in IN, 13 year old; Elizabeth, born May 1888 in IN, age 12 years old; Christine, born Aug 1899, age 9/12 years old; were living in house 212 at Michigan City, IN. All but the baby could read, write and speak English and John had not been unemployed during the previous 12 months. Joseph had attended school 5 out of the previous 12 months and the two older girls had attended 10 months.
1978 Letter from Christine to Hazel Marx:
According to Susan Ingerman (December 3, 2001), following trip to Michigan City, IN and New Buffalo, MI: “There was a stone behind hers {Gatherine Marx} that was the same soft white marble. It was all in German the top said Mamie. The Front what I could read said. Tocht von (Keith said that means child of) (next word unclear. looked like) J. und C. Perhaps for John and Catherine Marx Seimetz who's stones she was near. (Catherine was with a C on her grave stone)

There were many German words on the bottom half but after not much luck with Great-Great Grandma's stone I decided I needed to continue to look for others.
