Family History:
In 1892 John was a farmer living in Jamaica, IA.
On June 7, 1900 John Neister 51 year old hardware store owner born Apr 1849 in Ohio, married 22 years and owned his own home free and clear; Laura, 55 year old born Mar 1845 in Pennsylvania, married 22 years and having given birth to 5 children 2 of whom are still living; Paul, 8 year old born September 1891 in Iowa; were living in household 120 Ledyard, Kossuth County, IA. Paul was attending school.
According to Donna (Neister) Przecha (December 5, 2001): "Joseph Nichter (Nuchter) and Salamina Ruch only had one other boy who survived to adulthood. John, like his brother Peter, adopted the more American spelling of Neister although his name at birth was spelled Nichter. According to his obituary, he came West in 1868 and worked at Marshalltown, IA until the spring of (can't read) when he came to Guthrie Co., and settled on a farm between Yale and Jamaica. He and Laura had five children, three of whom died in early childhood. In 1891 he moved to Ledyard,Kossuth County, IA, at which place he engaged in the hardware business and was an active businessman until 1901. He belonged to the church."
