CARTER, JOHN, Spotsylvania Co., d. May 9, 1778, Executors Bond dated Dec. 18, 1783. Wit. M. Buckner, Richard Loury. Ex. sons, William and John Carter, Thomas Colson, Joseph Brock. Leg. wife Hannah; son Robert, one hundred pounds for education; son John in trust for the use of my granddaughter Sarah Kenyon Thomas, two negroes; son-in-law Rice Curtis and Frances, his wife, during their lives 300 acres of land whereon they now live, after their death to be equally divided among all their children; stock and household furniture to be divided among my five younger children; all the rest of my estate to be equally divided among all my children, except that if my daughter Martha should die without issue, her portion to be divided among the other children.
