1. Burnham1 Patterson was born October 03, 1805 in NY, and died 1858 in OH. He married Mariah Purdy. She was born September 21, 1807, and died August 18, 1880 in Wapella, Dewitt Co, IL.
Notes for Burnham Patterson:
Was a cooper by trade.
Lived in Attica, OH and then moved to Wapella, IL by way of covered wagons drawn by oxen.
In some of my notes, it says that Burnham died in OH but was buried in Illinois. I don’t think that can be correct. My notes say that he is buried in Wapella, IL so that is where I am guessing that he died.

Notes for Mariah Purdy:
According to History of Sangamon County, pg 1633, Mariah was raised by her grandparents and lived with them until she was married. It also goes on to say that her great grandfather died on the ocean and was buried at sea. Both of her parents died when she was a child and little is known of them.

The History of Sangamon County says that William was killed by falling down an elevator shaft in a Chicago building about 1889.

8. Dr. Newell2 Patterson (Burnham1) was born October 07, 1838 in Attica, OH. He married Lida Igum.
Notes for Dr. Newell Patterson:
Fought in 22 Civil War Battles. He entered the Union Army as a volunteer at the beginning of the war when President Lincoln issued the first call for volunteers. He was a sergeant attached to Co. D, thirty-second Ohio Infantry. At the close of the war he went to Wapella, IL and studied medicine under his brother-in-law, Dr. T.W. Davis. He later attended the University of Cincinnati. Retired in 1908, physician/druggist. For many years he owned a drug store in Normal, IL. Died at the age of 102 from influenza at his home.

She married Levi Smith April 14, 1867 in Republic, Seneca Co., OH, son of John Smith and Barbara Jackson. He was born October 24, 1840 in Ashland or Loudinville, OH, and died January 22, 1913 in Springfield, IL Sangamon County.
