FT. GREEN.

James Williams was born in Trigg county, Ky., Apr. 9, 1828, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Maria Harris, Feb. 9, 1906.  In 1836 he came with his uncle to Illinois and settled in McDonough county and lived there five years, after which he came to Hancock county, where he has since resided.  He was married to Martha Young at New Boston, Lee Co., Iowa, April 1st, 1858.  To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son, viz: Mrs. Edna Seward, Mrs. Natta Duffie and Chas. Williams, all of this place, Lucy having died some years ago.  Deceased with his wife, joined the M. E. church, at Friendship, in 1860 and has ever tried to perform his duties to family and friends as a christian should.  His wife died June 4, 1897, and since that time he has made his home with his son at the old home place until about two years ago, when they moved to a farm one mile north of town and there resided until a few weeks before his death when he came to live with his sister.  Although his health has been failing for a long while he has been able to be about most all the time and was only confined to his bed two days.  Uncle Jim, as he was called by old and young, will be sadly missed, not only by his family, but by everyone.  He was always cheerful and pleasant to those with whom he came in contact, and to know him was to love him.  Besides his three children is a stepdaughter, Mrs. Laura Clute, who watched at his bedside with a daughter's love and devotion, and was ever ready to do all that she could for his comfort.  He also leaves two sisters, seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.  Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Oberchain, assisted by Rev. Love.  A select choir sang some of the hymns he loved best, after which the remains were laid to rest by those of his wife, in Majorville cemetery.  Peace to his ashes.

Those that attended the funeral of Mr. Williams from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Thos. Callihan, of Ferris; George Hamilton, of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Potter of Durham; Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Shutwell, of LaHarpe; Murray Pennock and wife, of Burnside and Mrs. Forrest Ruggles, of Vishnue.

Notes:  Natta Duffie should be Mary Jeanette Duffy
