Many old friends here were sorry to hear of the death of Mr. A. D. Williams of Tennessee, Ill., on last Sunday.  The writer has known him from childhood and from many of our younger years, lived side by side in the old home town of Fountain Green.  Our sympathy is extended to his family and relatives, for they have lost a good father and friend.

Death of A. D. Williams.

The Macomb Daily Journal: Anderson Duncan Williams, second child of Lemuel and Cassie Simmons Williams, was born February 16, 1840, in Hire township, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. B. Grimes, Oct. 20, 1929, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 4 days.

Out of a family of ten brothers and sisters only one brother, John F. Williams, Wilmathsville, Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. Ava Tyler, Kirksville, Missouri, remain to mourn his passing.

At the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, he enlisted in Company 1, Second Illinois Cavalry, and served throughout the war.  He was a participant in the siege of Vicksburg, Pittsburg Landing, Shilo and Holly Springs, besides numerous other engagements, and was honorably discharged in the state of Louisiana in 1865.

He was loyal to his country and a lover of the Stars and Stripes.  It was due chiefly to the efforts of himself and a former comrade, Russell McCullough, that the flag stands here in our church.  October 29, 1866, he was united in marriage with Louisa Bryant who preceded him in death March 9, 1920.

To this union was born nine children, three of whom survive him.  They are Mrs. W. B. Switzer, Tennessee, Ill.; Mrs. A. B. Grimes, Plymouth, and Roy C. Williams, Tennessee.  Also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He served as postmaster in our community for sixteen years, also as justice of the peace; was a member of the M. E. Church of Fountain Green, moving his membership here which he moved to this place in 1895.

The last old soldier in Tennessee township has passed from our midst, we have lost a good citizen but he leaves a splendid record.

Funeral was held at the Tennessee M. E. Church, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 10:30 a. m. with Rev. Ballew in charge.  Burial at Fountain Green.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral of A. D. Williams were: John Williams, Wilmathsville, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Williams and Mrs. Ava Tyler, Kirksville, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Winslow and son, Green Top, Mo., Mrs. Cal Bowles and Mrs. James Ewalt, Galesburg, Ill.; Mrs. Gracia Bullock, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shinn, LaHarpe, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Tressler Shinn, Burnside; Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mull and daughter, of Peoria; Dr. C. L. Ferris, Will Ferris, of Carthage; Mrs. Grace Crabill, of LaCrosse.

These friends and all relatives had dinner at Tom Latherow's after the burial.
