ELDA E. WHITESIDE

Aug. 4, 1922 -- Oct. 23, 2001

Elda E. Whiteside, 79, of Keokuk, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at the Heritage Home in Carthage.

She was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Carthage, the daughter of Fred and Lula Gillenwater Belknap.  On April 6, 1944, she married Elbert Whiteside in Ft. Madison, Iowa.  He died Feb. 3, 1973.

She is survived by two daughters, Bessie (Richard) Brenenstall of Elvaston and Beckie (Dennis) Frazier of Kahoka, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kathy (Heath) Richmond, Tammy (Richard) Robinson, Ronald, Ryan, and Denise Frazier; four great grandchildren; seven sisters, Alletia Hale of Carthage, Erma Lee Inman of Llano, Texas, Ruth Howell of Keokuk, Rose Hoing and Dorothy Bundy, both of Rock Island, Evelyn Brown of Moline, and Betty Costelli of Wheaton; three brothers, Frank and Willis Belknap, both of Carthage, and Jessie Belknap of Rock Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sister and one brother.

She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk.  In her early years she had been employed at the Whitey Tire Shop in Keokuk, as bookkeeper.  She then was the manager of apartments for 60 years.  She enjoyed making quilts and working in her garden.  She was a member of the Tri-State Quilting Club and Utility Watch.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastor Craig Burton officiating.  Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the Heritage Home of Carthage, or the Evangelical Free Church of Keokuk.
