Funeral services for Leroy White, 84, of near Blandinsville, father of Mrs. Wanda Huston, teacher in Scofield school in Carthage and Mrs. Gladys McConnell, principal of the Fountain Green grade school, were held Thursday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Banks Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Burial was in the LaHarpe cemetery.
Mr. White died Monday, Oct. 31, in Mary Davier hospital in LaHarpe, where he had been a patient for three weeks.
Born in Fountain Green township March 26, 1876, he was a son of Mansel and Mary Ann George White. He attended schools near Fountain Green and the old Gittings seminary in LaHarpe.
He was married to Stella Sibert Oct. 21, 1897 in her home in the Eagle neighborhood. She died Jan. 1, 1953.
He spent nearly all his life on the farm on which he was living at the time of his death. He was a member of the Christian church and served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, deacon and elder. He had also served on the board of Eagle school.
Mr. White was a charter member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau and a director for Fountain Green township.
He was affiliated with the Blandinsville Masonic lodge and had been a member of the Quincy consistory for 41 years.
Surviving with Mrs. Huston and Mrs. McConnell are four other daughters, Miss Lois White and Miss Esther White, at home, Mrs. Bessie Deener of Macomb and Mrs. Nellie Asquith of Rock Island; a son, Lawrence, at home; a sister, Mr. Pearl Mann of Lockport; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
