LAWRENCE S. WHITE

Dec. 27, 1913 -- Aug. 30, 2004

Lawrence S. White, 90, Blandinsville, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born near Fountain Green on Dec. 27, 1913, to LeRoy and Stella Siebert White.

He is survived by one niece, Gaylee Asquith; four nephews, Kenneth McConnell of rural LaHarpe, Donald (Mabel) Deener, Conrad (Connie) Deener, all of Macomb, and John Asquith of Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Esther White, Gladys McConnell, Bessie Deener, Lois White, Nellie Asquith, and Wanda Huston; two nieces, Diane Shores and Faye Asquith; and two nephews, Edward Deener and Larry McConnell.

He attended Eagle School, Fountain Green High School and graduated from Blandinsville High School.  He was inducted into the Army in March 1941.  He was a T/Sgt. in the infantry of the 7th Division.  He took part in the amphibian invasions of the Aleutian Islands, Kiwjalian Islands in the Marshalls, Leyte Island in the Phillipines and Okinawa Island near Japan.  He was there when the Japanese surrendered.  He received his honorable discharge from the Army in November 1945.  He spent his life on the family farm south east of Blandinsville.  He was a member of the old Central Christian Church near Blandinsville.  The last two years of his life he was a resident of the Heartland Healthcare Center in Macomb.

Visitation is from 2 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, and Thursday. Sept. 2, until 1 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.  Graveside services with military rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the LaHarpe Cemetery with Robin Thompson officiating.

A memorial fund has been established for the Macomb Salvation Army.
