HAROLD WELCH

April 8, 1909 -- Dec. 14, 1996

Harold Lucius Welch, 87, of Carthage, died Dec. 14, at the Montebello Manor Health Care Center in Hamilton.

He was born April 8, 1909, in Fulton County, the son of Orpha Glen and Iva Myrtle Rose Welch.  He married Juanita LeClere Nov. 4, 1933, in Carthage.  She died July 22, 1995.

He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Shirley) Haines of Colchester; Patricia S. Byers of Carthage; Mrs. Gerald (Judy) Allison of Carthage; Mrs. Glenwood (Sherry) Nye of Keokuk, Iowa; Mrs. Albert (Peggy) Mustain of Colchester; and Mrs. Rick (Vicki) Crum of Marquette Heights; one son, Gerald Welch of Joplin, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand-child.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother and a brother in infancy.

Welch was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage.  He was the Maintenance Manager at Memorial Hospital in Carthage for a number of years, and had also worked at Wright Hardware Store and Robert Morris Junior College in Carthage.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling and was a sports enthusiast.  He had played semi-pro football for Canton, Mo.

Funeral services were held Tue., Dec.17, at the First Baptist Church in Carthage, Rev. Mark W. Ernst officiated.  Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery of rural route Hamilton.
