KENNETH WEBSTER

July 15, 1908 -- Oct. 13, 2006

Kenneth Webster, 98, of Bowen, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

He was born in Wythe Township, near Elderville in Hancock County, on July 15, 1908, a son of Arthur Remington "Ray" and Edith Orth Webster.  On March 26, 1934, he married Vera Leola Sharrow at the home of her parents near Bowen.  She died June 2, 2002.

He is survived by six children, Donald (Kay) Webster of Rushville, Robert (Minor) Larson of LeClaire, Iowa, Kay Schild of Quincy, Larry Kenneth (Glenadene) Webster of Bowen, Leon (Jo Ann) Webster of West Point, and Edward (Mary) Webster of Macomb; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; two sisters, Carol (Edwin) Weber of Nauvoo and Wilma Howes of Lynwood, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; an infant daughter, Rita; two great-grandsons, Robbie and Reese Suddeth; one son-in-law, Paul Schild; four sisters, Maxine Schmidt, Ruby Cain, Faye Dodge and Elsie Thompson.

He was a life long farmer in Hancock County near Chili, retiring in 1988 at the age of 80.  He was baptized in the Chili Presbyterian Church and later became a member of the Bowen United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the Farm Bureau.  He was an avid coon hunter, fisherman, and card player.  He also enjoyed gardening and mushrooming.  He was characterized as a loving family man, a hard worker, and a good neighbor.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 16, at the Bowen United Methodist Church.  Burial followed in the Chili Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.

Printy Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
