Mrs. Webb died in an Alton hospital Thursday, June 20, following a long illness.
Bertha Lane Webb was born in the Lane homestead six miles southeast of Carthage Oct. 13, 1877, the daughter of John Wesley and Martha Richards Lane.
She attended East Union rural school and was graduated from Carthage College in 1901.
On Oct. 1, 1902, she was married to the Rev. Morgan Webb. They served pastorates in Logansport and Camden, Ind., and Murphysboro. Her husband's health failed and they returned to her childhood home, where they made their home as long as he lived.
After returning to Hancock county, she, with the help of Mrs. Herbert Whitten of Carthage, who at that time was regional director of Parent-Teacher work, organized a Parent-Teachers' association for Union school. This organization functioned until Union school was dissolved.
She was membership chairman of the state P.T.A. in 1930, and was a life member of the East Union group. Her interest in life membership resulted in seven people becoming life members.
After the death of her husband she went to live with her son in Godfrey, but was able to attend the 60th anniversary of her Carthage College graduating class in 1961 and last summer attended the 125th anniversary celebration of the city of Carthage. Carthage College meant a great deal to the family as she and her husband, and son and daughter-in-law, all graduated there.
She was life member of Trinity Lutheran church.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Mrs. John (Mary Frances Kimbrough) Webb of Godfrey; four grandchildren, Susan, entering MacMurray college in Jacksonville this fall, David, a high school senior, and Carol and Jeanie at home; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, John Lane Webb, who died Feb. 4, 1963; an infant son; a sister, Mrs. Julia Harter; and two brothers, Arthur and Leon Lane.
