Obituary

Mrs. Arzilla Ward fell asleep January 29, 1908, at her home near Middle Creek.  She was born in Smith county, Tennessee, Sept. 24, 1822, and when at the age of nine years she moved with her parents, Hickerson and Cynthia Wright, to Hopkins county, Kentucky where they lived for three years.  They then moved to Hancock county, Illinois, in May 1834.  She received her education from subscription schools of the county.  She was married Jan. 13, 1848, to Zebediah Ward.  To this union were born three children, two of whom are living, viz; Wright, of Reno, Arkansas1, and Mark, of Memphis, Mo.  The daughter, Mrs. Lorinda Alton, together with the husband and father, who died February 26, 1895, were waiting on the shores of the better land for the coming of "mother."  Besides the two living children there are three granddaughters and four great grand children; also two sisters, Mrs. Letha Tull of California and Mrs. Cynthia Willey of Carthage and three brothers, Seaborn A. Wright of Fountain Green, Charles of Carthage and Henry D. of Ft. Jones, Cal.  These, together with a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of one who will be greatly missed by all.

Grandma Ward was a kind and good neighbor, always ready to help in time of need.  She was glad to see her friends, always ready to extend her hand.  She loved her home, for it has been her home for fifty-four years, and in which she has left many things done by her own fingers.  Thus passes from our midst a noble life, a life of ambition and unfaltering perseverance.  No longer will she mingle with us here; no longer will those fond children look forward to the home-coming to see mother; but some glad day we shall all hope to meet her where parting is unknown.

Funeral services were held at the home on Friday, at 11 o'clock, after which she was laid to rest in the Middle Creek cemetery beside her husband and daughter.
