Column 3OBITUARY MRS. MARK WARD
"Annie Thurber was born July 2, 1860. She attended school in her native county, taught there, and there met Mark Ward to whom she was married Feb. 22, 1886. They moved to Missouri, and in 1892, to the present home from which she departed this life, May 13, 1927. She has been a life-long member of the Dover Baptist church. She is survived by her husband, her daughter, Mrs. Faye Dennison, a granddaughter, Dorothy Dennison, and Mrs. Harriett Ralph, Memphis, Mrs. Laura Roasa, Granger, Mo.; (many other relatives and a host of friends.)
"These are the outstanding events in the nearly 67-year life-span of our friend, Mrs. Ward. But it would take many times this number of words to fully tell of her beautiful useful life. She was one of those quiet reserved women who exert a powerful influence. As a true friend and helpful neighbor she had no superior. Her church knew no more loyal member; her every act was governed by her earnest christian faith. But the home was the center of her special devotion. She made it a hallowed spot, not only for members of the family but for the occasional guest. Sacrificial service was for her the greatest joy. (Wise counsel and ambitions for the success of friends as well as for the family, every problem received her thoughtful consideration.)
"With the patience passing human understanding, she bore for years without a murmur the terrible suffering of her disease-racked body. Release came at 11 a.m. last Friday and she left the world not in its debt but with the world in debt to her for her rich contributions to the worth-while things of life."
Thru the tears and silence, there will always remain with those who knew her an abiding influence for the good she ever exemplified as wife, mother, friend. As for her --
Life's work all done,
Life's race all run,
Life's crown well run,
Now--comes rest. The funeral service was conducted from the home Sunday afternoon to the Baptist Church in Memphis, in the presence of a large gathering of sympathetic friends and neighbors. Rev. Arthur S. Olsen preached from the text, "She Hath Done What She Could." Mark 14:8. Interment was in the city cemetery where she was tenderly laid to rest. May God bless and comfort the sorrowing husband, daughter and granddaughter.
The pall-bearers were: Frank Israel, J. E. McKee, O. O. McKinley, R. S. Hendricks, S. J. Onken, Earl Hays.
The quartette composed of Mrs. Grace Williams, Mrs. Will Gristy, John Wiegner, Glen Oliver sang, "Near to the Heart of God," "Now the Day is Over," with Mrs. Virgie McQuoid at the piano. Mrs. Minnie Bence sang "There's a Dear and Precious Book."
