David Walton

David Walton, son of Simeon and Elizabeth Stark Walton, was born near Mt. Pleasant, Ill., August 4, 1846, and passed away at Marietta Phelps hospital at Macomb, Dec. 30, 1924.

He spent all of his life till maturity at his childhood home north of the Mt. Pleasant church and on April 4, 1872, passed out of its portals to be united in marriage to Miss Lucy Emily Scott, also of this community.  Three children came to gladden this home: a daughter, who died in infancy, and two sons, Forest Edwin, of Bowen, and Frank, both of whom were able to be present when he passed away.

The years were full of activities, Mr. Walton being a successful farmer and stock raiser and as fortune smiled on him he accumulated considerable property here and elsewhere.  A number of years ago Mr. and Mrs. Walton moved to Denver to pass their declining days in peace and comfort.

Just last March illness entered the home and the faithful companion of fifty-two years, after submitting to an operation at St. Joseph's hospital, Keokuk, quietly closed her eyes and entered her last sleep on March 12th, leaving her aged husband alone.

He spent a time after this with his son Frank and family in Florida, but the longing for the old home became so great with him that the family accompanied him here, where they have since lived together, they tenderly caring for him and making his last days as comfortable as possible.  Great credit is also due his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Walton, of Bowen, who never was so busy that she could not leave her work to come and be of assistance.

He entered Marietta Phelps hospital the week previous and submitted to an operation Tuesday, Dec. 30th, from this he never regained consciousness, and passed away four hours later.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Mt. Pleasant church.  A short service was held at the home, conducted by Rev. SaundersRev. Mr. Taylor, pastor of the Denver Christian church preached the funeral sermon and was assisted by Rev. Mr. Liston of the Bowen Methodist church and Rev. Saunders of the Congregational church of Denver.  The Congregational male quartette, who furnished the music, consisted of the following men: Chester Clark, Arthur Graham, Hamill Graham and Albert ImmellMrs. Arthur Graham accompanied them.  Interment in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.     Pansy.
