Lydia Vance

Funeral services for Mrs. William (Lydia) Vance, 79, rural Carthage, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Denver Christian Church with the Rev. Greg Ellcey and the Rev. Donald E. Skiles officiating.  Burial was in Harmony Cemetery.

Mrs. Vance died Sunday morning, Dec. 17, 1972, in her home south of Carthage.

She was born July 9, 1893, in Floyd County, Va., a daughter of Floyd and Catherine Duncan Akers.  She married William A. Vance Feb. 17, 1915, in Carthage.  She was a member of the Christian Church.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Veach of Hamilton; three sons, Dr. Thomas W. Vance of Quincy, Sherman A. Vance of West Point and Dr. William A. Vance of Keokuk, Ia.; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Hersie Veach of Bowen, Mrs. Vindia Bruns of Hamilton and Mrs. Cuba Vilander of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.
