CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Chellis A. Vance, 85, of Denver, Ill., died at 9:55 a.m. Monday (Jan. 30, 1984) in the Clearwater Community Hospital in Clearwater, Fla., after an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Vance was born March 2, 1898, in Hancock County, a son of Sherman and Elsie Peter Vance. He married Bessie E. Jones on Dec. 29, 1920, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1965. He then married Mrs. Thea Mabry on July 19, 1968. She survives. He was a member of the West Point Assembly of God Church for the past 57 years.
He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Dick Vance of Clearwater and Harold Vance of Banger, Mich.; two step-sons, Arnold Mabry of Galesburg and Donald Mabry of Carthage; one step-daughter, Mrs. Connie Scheuermann of Makinaw; one sister, Mrs. Roy (Lydia) Dunlop of Denver; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers.
Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Neiser Funeral Home of Carthage, conducted by the Rev. Walter Pope. Burial will be in the Harmony Township Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the West Point Assembly of God Church.
