Blanch Underhill

COLCHESTER -- Blanch M. Underhill, 95, of Colchester died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Nov 11, 1990 at McDonough District Hospital.

She was born March 5, 1895 in Hamilton, the daughter of James and Dora (Davis) Swain.  She married Cecil Underhill, Oct. 17, 1940.  He died March 19, 1988.

Surviving are one daughter, Elinora M. Zeisler of Augusta; eight grandchildren, two of the grandsons, Jerri and Tom Brown, were reared in the Underhill home; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruby Grupy of Burlington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Underhill lived in Carthage part of her life and was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Colchester United Methodist Church, Colchester Rebekah Lodge and Colchester Royal Neighbors Lodge.

Graveside memorial services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Colchester with the Rev. Ernest Louderman officiating.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Jones Mortuary of Colchester is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the McDonough County Heart Fund.

Graveside memorial services for Blanch M. Underhill, 95, were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14 at Mount Auburn Cemetery with Rev. Ernest Louderman officiating.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Jones' Mortuary here was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the McDonough County Heart Fund.

Mrs. Underhill died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, November 11, 1990 at McDonough District Hospital.

She was born March 5, 1895 in Hamilton, the daughter of James and Dora (Davis) Swain.  She married Lloyd Loop who died of influenza.  There was a daughter, Elinora M. Zeisler, of Augusta who survives.  She later married Henry Wagle.  Following his death she married Cecil Underhill on October 17, 1940.  He died March 19, 1988.

Surviving also with the one daughter are eight grandchildren, two of the grandsons, Jerri and Tom Brown, were reared in the Underhill home; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruby Grupy of Burlington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Your editor had the privilege of knowing Blanch Underhill as only one neighbor can know another.  She, along with her husband, Cecil, were great to have near at hand in emergencies and at other times, too.  One could sit with Blanch on her front porch and talk while the world went by, and many of us did.
