Column 4CHARLES FRANCIS TOWLES
Once again the grim reaper of death has called one from among us.
Charles Francis Towles was born in Hancock county, Ill., Aug. 7, 1835, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Loop, April 6, 1917, aged 81 years, 7 months and 29 days.
Charles Francis Towles was united in marriage to Rebecca Printy, Dec. 11, 1856. To this union nine children were born, eight daughters and one son, six of whom are living, the wife and three daughters having preceded the father to the great beyond. The children living are, Mrs. James Loop, Sterling Towles, Mrs. Ed. Austin, Mrs. C. F. Long of Carthage; Mrs. James Scott, of House, N. M.; Mrs. A. J. Hills, of Jamestown, Kas.; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Holland of Carthage, with relatives, grandchildren and friends are left to mourn his departure.
In 1912 he was converted to God and united with the Christian church of Carthage. Since then he has been a consistent member and a moral man. The past few weeks of his life has been filled with great suffering, yet borne with patience and forbearance and he went to meet his Savior which he was willing to go. Upon the face of the departed there was a calm and unseamed look that he was freed from all cares and afflictions.
The funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Long, 914 East Main street, Carthage, Ill., Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock p. m. Interment at Holland cemetery, twelve miles east of Carthage.
