Column 2Miss Susie Meal and brother Robert of Good Hope attended the funeral of Estella Thompson.
A large crowd from Ferris attended the funeral of Stella Thompson.
Our community grieves over the death of one of our best ladies, Lena Estella Thompson. Stella was a girl of great personal worth. We think no lady of her acquaintance possessed more friends than she. Her mind was pure, her disposition sweet and fascinating. She knew the meaning of true friendship and always sacrificed her own pleasure to make her friends happier. Her ambition was greater than her strength. She was sentimental. Her funeral was the largest in our memory at this place. She was a faithful member of the Christian church. She leaves a mother, 2 sisters and 3 brothers to mourn her early departure besides relatives and friends who all feel a personal loss in her death. Funeral at the Christian church Friday by her pastor, Mr. Shiplett. Burial at McKay cemetery. Her family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
We neglected to say that the Rebekahs of Ferris officiated at the funeral of Miss Thompson, she being a member of that order.
We, the members of the fraternal army, realizing the loss we have sustained by the decease of our friend and associate, Lena Estella Thompson and of the still heavier loss sustained by those who were nearest and dearest to her, therefore be it resolved, that it is but a just tribute to the memory of Stella, who was for the past three years a member of our society, to say, that in regretting her removal from our midst we mourn for one who was, in every way, worthy of our respect. Resolved, that we sincerely condole with the mother, brothers and sisters of the deceased, and commend them for consolation to him who orders all things for the best, and whose chastisements are meant in mercy. Resolved, that this heartfelt testimonial of our sympathy and sorrow be forwarded to the mother of our departed friend by the committee, Mrs. C. M. Thomas and Jesse Thomas.
