Column 5MRS. J. H. THOMPSON.
One of the saddest deaths we are called upon to record this week is that of Mrs. J. H. Thompson at her home near Oak Grove, which occurred June 27th, 1913, aged 55 years, 10 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of that pioneer family of Jesse and Sally Ann (McCubbin) Riggins for long years well known respected in that community. She was born in Hancock township, Aug. 22, 1857, and lived all her life in that township. In 1875 she united with the Christian church at Oak Grove under the ministry of Elder Kirk, and ever since has been a true and loyal member.
On October 16th, 1886, she was married to J. H. Thompson, to which union one child, a daughter, was born, which died in infancy. After the death of the child her health was never good and this spring her health began to fail in a marked manner. Her sufferings were great and were borne patiently, but at the last, death came as a longed for relief.
Beside her husband she leaves to mourn her departure three sisters, Mrs. Martha Maynard of this city, Mrs. Sarah Gillenwater and Mrs. Mary Ruddle of near Oak Grove and three brothers, Monroe, Sylvester and Lee Riggins, all of Oak Grove neighborhood.
The funeral was held at the Oak Grove church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. A. L. Cole of Carthage, officiating. The attendance was so great the church would not accommodate the people who sought thus to show their respect to this much beloved woman. The interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
