JOETTA

Wilhelm Teckmeire, a well known and highly respected citizen of Hancock township, died at his home near here, Saturday, January 31, of cancer, aged 68 years, 7 months and 19 days.  Mr. Teckmeire was born in Prusia, Germany, in 1834.  He came to America when he was about 20 years old and settled in St. Louis.  He was united in marriage to Miss Katharine Sumfield, of St. Louis, in 1857, she also being a native of Germany.  Born to them were three children, Minnie and Anna being deceased, the surviving being Mrs. Elizabeth Edgar of near here.  From St. Louis they moved to Warsaw, Ill. and remained until the death of Mrs. Teckmeire, which occurred in December, 1865.  In 1866 he was united in marriage again to Miss Fredrick Miller, of Warsaw, thence they removed to this township settling near Webster.  After a few years they moved to his farm where he resided until his death.  There are left to mourn his departure the wife and five children viz, George, Katie, Conrad, William and Charlie, besides a great many friends. Mr. Teckmeire united with the Lutheran church when 16 years old and lived a true christain life.  He was a noble man and useful citizen.  The rememberance of his many virtues will remain bright in the hearts of those who knew them and shared his hospitality.  He told his friends during the last few weeks of his life he was ready to meet the call of his "Savior."  Funeral service was held at Majorville Monday, February 2, 1903, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. W. Sifferd of Carthage.  The large audience gave testimony to the esteem and respect in which he was held by all.  The family desires to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy shown during the illness and death of the deceased.
