DOUGLAS KENT SWEARINGEN

January 30, 1962 -- April 15, 2002

Douglas Kent Swearingen, 40, of Springfield, IL, passed away April 15, 2002, at his home.

The son of Henry Arthur and Esther (Ensore) Swearingen, he was born January 30, 1962, in Quincy, IL.

Douglas was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and canoeing, as well as competing on baseball and softball teams.  He enjoyed music.  Douglas was a skilled welder, often making flower hooks and star wind ornaments for his family.

He is survived by his parents of Springfield, IL; three brothers, Arthur Swearingen of Springfield, IL, Kevin Swearingen of Merced, CA, and Chris Sunderland of Downers Grove, IL; one sister, Karen Argentine and her husband, Dean, and twin nephews, Joshua and Zachary Argentine of Gulf Breeze, FL; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held April 19, 2002, in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with Brother Jack Sumption officiating.  Interment was in the Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg, MO.  Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist, and Joe Fulk, vocalist.  Serving as pallbearers were Henry Swearingen, Kevin Swearingen, Art Swearingen, Ike Swearingen, Dorsey Swearingen, and Chris Sunderland.  Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis, MO chapel.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 19, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Brother Jack Sumption officiating.  Interment was in the Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg, MO.  Visitation was held on Thursday, April 18, 2002, from 2-8 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m.
