Column 3Obituary
Death has again entered our midst and taken from among us one of our oldest and best beloved citizens. James William Stotlar was born in Ohio, Feb. 9th, 1838, and died at his home near Carthage, Illinois, March 26th, 1912, aged 77 years, 1 month and 17 days.
He was married to Eliza Huff December 18th, 1869. To this union were born nine children, namely: James William, Jr., Vinson, Sarah Louise, John Benjamin and Joseph Franklin, all living in or near their father's home. And Mrs. Mary Dickson, of Alexandria, Mo. Three daughters, Mrs. Ella Brooks, little Nettie, six years old and a young infant, preceded him to that land unknown, where no tears of sorrow ever flow.
He was a true, loving and devoted husband and father, also a kind hearted friend and neighbor, ever ready and willing in time of need to lend a helping hand.
He leaves to mourn his loss the six children above mentioned, also Mrs. Lucinda Bruce, a daughter by a former marriage of which we can find no record; ten grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors. Dear father, though our hearts are sadly pained and filled with deepest sorrow, we know that thou hast earned thy rest.
At the special request of the deceased, funeral services were held at the house, conducted by J. L. Smith of Carthage after which the body was laid to rest in the Oak Grove cemetery.
