ELIZA MARIA HUFF

Eliza Maria Huff, daughter of Buchrod and Lucinda Huff, was born in Belvin county, Ohio, October 30, 1847 and passed away at the home of her daughter in Middle Creek June 23, 1923 at the age of 75 years 7 months and 24 days.  Early in life the family moved to Illinois settling in Peoria and here in the year 1867 she was married to James William Stotlar.  To this union were born four sons and four daughters, viz: James William, of Galland, Iowa; Vincent at home; Mrs. Mary A. Dickinson, of Wayland, Mo., Sarah Louise, of Middle Creek, John Benjamin of Carthage; Joseph at home and two daughters that preceded her in death: Mrs. Nancy Ellen Brooks and Clara Jeanette.  Since her husband's death 11 years ago she has been loved tenderly and cared for by her two sons, Vincent and Frank.

For the past few months she has been cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Carroll.  She took a mother's place in caring for Floyd Brooks, the infant son of her deceased daughter, Nancy Ellen.  There is also left to mourn her passing one step-daughter, Mrs. Lucinda Bruce, of Carthage, one brother, John Huff, of Peoria, two sisters Mrs. Lucrita Wilson, of Peoria and Mrs. Ellen Shepler, besides nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She made confession of faith in her Savior early in life.  Mrs. Stotlar was a kind loving neighbor in every community in which she made her home.  She lived out the time allotted unto her by the Psalmist and has answered the final summons to depart this life and to enter into that larger life beyond the grave.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Oak Grove Christian church, Rev. R. B. Fouts, pastor of the Carthage Christian church officiating.  Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
