Columns 2 & 3Harrison Arthur Stockton, second child of Hampton Ripley and Sarah Smith Stockton was born in Rocky Run township in this county (Hancock county), April 1, 1863, and departed this life September 23, 1927 at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 22 days. His entire life with the exception of ten years was spent in this vicinity. These ten years he spent in the state of Kansas.
On December 27, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Day of Basco, and to this union were born two sons, Carl of Nauvoo, and Raymond of Hannibal, Mo.
In the year 1905 he became a member of Basco lodge I. O. O. F. No. 682 to which lodge he continued to be a member until his death. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. His jovial disposition and true comradeship with his fellowmen carried him through a life of happiness. In his home his very presence reflected a love and tenderness which memory may greatly comfort the sorrowing wife and children. As the years roll on many a person shall look back with pleasure upon the happy days when as a child the deceased played with them, treated them and truly enjoyed
them.Besides his wife and sons, he leaves to mourn his death three little grandsons, Horton, Lyle and Donald Stockton of Nauvoo, two sisters, Mrs. Clara Saunders and Mrs. Lizzie Tucker of California, three brothers, Fred of Keokuk, Iowa, Will of Carthage and James of Berkely, California. One sister Ida preceded him in death.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in the M. E. church conducted by Rev. J. T. Moore of Good Hope, Ill., after which the remains were interred in the South cemetery.
