Burnside Native
Dies Saturday

William Stidum, 67, died Saturday at the home of his daughter Miss Alma Stidum in Hamilton.

William Sylvester Stidum, son of William C. and Sarah Shinn Stidum, was born near Burnside February 17, 1880.  Most of his life was spent farming in the Burnside community, until poor health forced him to retire three years ago.  He had resided in the home of his daughter the past seven months.

He was united in marriage to Mary Sullivan December 22, 1898.  To this union four daughters were born, two of whom, Mrs. Hala Potter and Mrs. Lucile Machinski, preceded him in death four years ago.  The surviving daughters are Alma Stidum of Hamilton and Mrs. Wilma Sherman of Peoria.  He is also survived by two granddaughters, Mrs. Arlene Cochran of Hamilton and Barbara Sherman of Peoria, one great granddaughter, Susan Cochran; two brothers, Jesse D. of Burnside, and Roy E. of Des Moines, Iowa, and one half-sister, Mrs. Stella Bassett of Dallas City.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dickerson at the Hamilton funeral home at 2:30 Monday.  Miss Irva Peters and Mrs. Zella Hanerhoff sang "Have Thine Own Way" and "In the Valley of Peace."  Pallbearers from the Burnside community were Lloyd Derry, Homer Thompson, Guy Thompson, Marion Peterson, Lowell Arthur and Arthur Salisbury.  Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
