Column 6Mrs. Calvin Steele
Mrs. Calvin (Mary Ellen) Steele of 2805 South Seventh, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday in Graham hospital after an illness of a year.
Born October 14, 1903, in Disco, Ill., she was the daughter of William H. and Charity E. Hatfield Bryant.
Most of her adult life was spent in Keokuk and on April 14, 1921, here she married Calvin Steele.
Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Macel Goldie of Keokuk, a brother Wayne Bryant and a sister, Mrs. Pauline Shillak, both of Keokuk, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers, Jesse, James and Louis Bryant and a sister Amanda.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. today in DeJong's Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Isaacson officiating. Robert Higgins sang accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Bullis.
The pallbearers were Larry, Melvin, Donald and G. E. Bryant, William Hayden and Ted McGhghy. Burial was in the Buena Vista cemetery.
