MONTROSE -- John E. Speake, 75, of Montrose, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1920, at Donnellson, Iowa, to Charles Speake and Rose Koyenberg. He married Dolores Hatfield on Oct. 3, 1949. She survives.
Survivors include: one son, John P. Speake of Burlington; four stepchildren: Robert Hatfield of Basco, Ill., Jerry Hatfield of Keokuk, Joyce VonEnde of Burlington and Mrs. James (Sandra) Finley of Montrose; three sisters: Veva Bragg of Laplate, Mo., Margaret Kay of Fort Madison and Barbara Mead of Montrose; one brother: Charles Speake of Chicago, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was a resident of Montrose for most of his life, and was a Keokuk school employee for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson, with Bro. Bill Hauser officiating.
Burial will be in the Charleston Cemetery at Donnellson.
Visitation will be today at Hofbauer Funeral Home, with family meeting friends from 7-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, or may be left at the Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson.
