PASSED AWAY AT
HOME NEAR HEREMaggie Ellison Smith passed away at her home in Hancock township, Sunday, December 17, at 3:30 o'clock, a. m., aged 58 years, 6 months and 9 days, after eight long years of patient suffering during which hope and anxiety alternately filled the hearts of her devoted family and a large circle of friends whom she always welcomed so heartily.
Maggie was the youngest of nine children was born near Adrian, Ill., June 8, 1875; her parents, Mathew and Nancy Hansen Ellison were born in England one hundred years ago. Maggie visited their native land with them when she was four years of age. At the age of sixteen she joined the Latter Day Saints church and was united in marriage to Albert A. Smith, Oct. 6, 1897 by George W. Jones at his home in Carthage. Three children, Versa, Ollie and Wyman blessed this union. Little Ollie was called Home March 23, 1905, when only three years and six months old.
Besides her grief-stricken husband, daughter and son, she leaves to mourn her passing the following brothers and sisters: Henry Ellison of near Adrian; William Ellison of Niota; Mrs. Charlie Coleman of Carthage; and Mrs. Ella Neuman of Milnos, North Dakota. Two brothers, James and Thomas and two sisters, Ruth and Mrs. Mary Kelly have gone before her.
Funeral services were held at Oak Grove church Tuesday afternoon, December 19th at 2:00 p. m., conducted by Rev. Laurence Bear of Farmington, Ill.
The pallbearers were Burton Ruggles, Tylee Adams, George Thompson, Harry Jobe, Lee Hoyt and Sam Long.
