Pallbearers were Junior Carle, Vernon Smith, William Carle, Lawrence Smith, Clifton Carle and Richard Smith.
Smith, lifelong resident of the Carthage community, died May 19 at 8:40 a. m. in Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient for five days, following a stroke suffered at the home of his son, Frank. He was born Jan. 6, 1866, in Hancock county, a son of Guthrie and Martha Prior Smith.
He joined the Oak Grove Christian church when they lived in that community. He enjoyed the annual birthday gathering held each year in his honor, when his family was all present.
