Column 6Death of Mrs.
Ida May SmithIda May Printy Smith, wife of Jesse E. Smith, passed away after a long illness, at the home of her son, Frank, of near St. Marys, at 5:50 p. m., Feb. 17, 1935, being at the time of her death 62 years, 11 months and 29 days old.
She was the daughter of James Madison and Caroline (Booz) Printy, born Feb. 19, 1872.
She was united in marriage to Jesse E. Smith, June 19, 1887. To this union were born seven children, Grover, Frank, Leslie, Nannie, Jessie, Elva and Merlin.
Sorrow first came into their home when Grover passed away on Dec. 18, 1931.
A number of years ago she united with the Christian church of Oak Grove and has remained a faithful member. She was a good wife and mother, better could not be found. She was always in a good humor, smiling, laughing, joking and she was uncomplaining though her health had been poorly for over three years. She was a home body, deriving her pleasure from her home, well kept by her own hands. She was tenderly cared for during her illness by her devoted husband and children.
Besides her husband and children, there are left to mourn her departure, thirty-three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three brothers, William, of Hamilton, Ill.; Charlie, of Carthage, and James, of California. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
I cannot say and I will not say
That she is dead, she is just away,
With a cheery smile and a wave of the
hand,
She has wandered into an unknown
land,
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since she lingers there. And you, Oh you, who wildest yearn
For the old time step and the glad
return,
Think of her faring on, as dear
In the love of there, as the love of here.
Think of her still as the same. I say--
She is not dead, she is just away.Funeral services conducted by Rev. Fred Nichols of Carthage, Ill., were held at Oak Grove, Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20th, at 1:00 o'clock, followed by interment at Oak Grove cemetery.
Casket bearers were grandchildren: Lawrence, Rolland, Vernon and Bernard Smith, Garnet Sammons and Rollie Mosley.
