Column 1HAROLD SMITH
Harold Ross Smith, 76, rural Carthage, died Sunday in Memorial Hospital, Carthage.
He was born June 9, 1910, in Hancock County, a son of Ernest "Ernie" and Mary Ann Ruddel Smith. He married Alleyne Smith, Oct. 5, 1967, in Dallas City.
He was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church and was a 40-year member of VFW Post 5117 in Carthage. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater in World War II.
Surviving with his wife are a step-daughter, Beulah Marie Lane, Canton; three stepsons, Wayne L. Shipman, Carthage, Ronald K. Shipman, Dallas City and Michael D. "Butch" Moore, Carthage; two brothers, Harvey E., Hamilton and Charley R., Plymouth; two sisters, Marjorie Knowles, Carthage and Mrs. Leta Towles, Spokane, Wash.; 11 step-grandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, in Oak Grove Christian Church, the Rev. Franklin Woods officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
A memorial to the church has been established.
