FRANCES SMITH

April 22, 1916 -- March 12, 2001

Frances Alleyene Smith, 84, of Canton, Ill., formerly a longtime resident of Carthage, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.  She was born April 22, 1916, in Carthage, the daughter of Cecil A. and Gladys Ann Long Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Rev. Beulah Marie (and husband William) Lane of Canton; three sons, Ronald K. (Sandra) Shipman of Dallas City, Wayne L. "Tooge" (Charlotte) Shipman of Carthage, and Michael "Butch" (Melissa) Moore of Carthage; 13 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three husbands, Zenes Shipman, William Moore, and Harold "Bub" Smith.

She had worked in Burlington as a factory worker.  She had also been employed in Carthage at the Wood Inn, and as the restaurant manager at the Maidrite.

She had attended Ferris Christian Church, and the Oak Grove Christian Church in Carthage.  She was of the Baptist Faith, baptized in 1950.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Oak Grove Cemetery at rural Carthage, with Rev. Beulah M. Lane officiating.  Visitation will be held Thursday, March 15, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage.

Memorials can be made to Oak Grove Cemetery.  Lamporte is in charge of the arrangements.
