Death of a Mother

Loss by death of any of the family circle is sad enough, but there is nothing so devastating to the home as the death of wife and mother.  This sad grief visited the home of a loving and devoted family in the death of Carrie Carle Smith, wife of Sylvester A. Smith, which occurred Feb. 26, 1913, at the family home near Oak Grove.

Carrie Louise Carle was born Jan 19, 1868, in Hancock township.  She was married to Sylvester Smith, Nov. 26, 1890, to which union four children were born, Lossie Fern, Cecil Allen, Altha Anita, who died in infancy and Blanche Pearl, who with the husband and three brothers survive to mourn her departure.

She was a member of the Oak Grove Christian church, having become a disciple in her girlhood days and has ever been a loyal devoted member, always attending the services of the church when her health would permit.

She was a good wife and mother and a true and sympathizing friend for in her heart was the law of kindness.  Her departure is a heartbreaking grief to the family in which they have the sympathy of the their many friends.

The funeral was held at the Oak Grove church Thursday at 2 o'clock, Rev. A. L. Cole, pastor of the Christian church at Carthage, officiating.
