Rites Held ThursdayAlbert Alva Smith, son of Jack and Nancy Jane Cameron Smith, was born March 9th, 1872 in Hancock County and passed away June 20th at 4:30 at his home east of Carthage.
When a young man he united with the Oak Grove Christian Church.
He has lived in the community where he was born with the exception of one year when he was seven years old they lived in Missouri.
He was a great lover of company and always had many visitors during his ten years of sickness.
He was united in marriage to Maggie Ellison on October 6, 1897. To this union was born three children, Versa, Ollie and Wyman. Ollie dying at the age of three and one-half years of age.
He was a good neighbor and was always ready to help his friends and neighbors in need.
He was a kind and loving husband and father. His wife preceded him in death December 17, 1933. He is survived by his daughter, Versa and son Wyman both at home; the following sisters, Mrs. Clyde Galloway, Mrs. Ed Stoneking, Mrs. Frank Stodgell and one uncle, Jesse Smith also survive.
His father, mother and five brothers preceded him in death. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral was held at The Elms Thursday, June 22, at 2 o'clock with Rev. Walter C. Burk officiating. Mrs. George Latherow, Mrs. Kenneth McConnell and Miss Ellen Lenix were in charge of the music.
Pall bearers were: Cherrill Reed, Wayne Galloway, Merlin Galloway, Frank Galloway, Harold Smith and Dale Plummer. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
