ED SHINN DROWNED.

Ed. Shinn, who was formerly a resident of this city, was drowned Sunday in the Mississippi river at Dallas City, when a gasoline launch in which he and Mr. Dettmer, also of Dallas City were riding, capsized.  Mr. Shinn and Mr. Dettmer had made a trip to Thompson's Island, with a hunting party and were returning when the accident occurred.

A strong wind was whipping the river into vast waves and when the boat upset, Mr. Dettmer was able to discard his hunting coat and swim to shore, but Mr. Shinn said he thought he would stay with the boat, doubtless thinking he would be able to right it and bring it to shore.  When Mr. Dettmer had reached shore a searching party was sent out, but the body had not yet been found.  Mr. Shinn was employed at the Thomas Harvey garage in Dallas City.  He leaves surviving his wife.

Mr. Shinn was formerly engaged in the garage business in this city, being located on the northeast corner of the square, when he was associated with Roy Stidum.  After they had disposed of the garage Mr. Shinn was then employed by Mr. Monroe, who occupied the same garage.  He has many friends in Carthage who learn with sadness of his tragic death.
