L. Y. Sherman

Funeral services for Loren Y. Sherman were held Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton, the Rev. James Piper, pastor of the First Christian church in Carthage, officiating.  Craig Lamporte was the soloist, accompanied by Miss Irva Peters, organist.  Pallbearers were William Carroll, James Dean, and Hollis Dean, all nephews; and Leroy Roberts, Loren Schmitz, and Scott Harding.  Burial was in Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton.

Mr. Sherman died Wednesday, April 24, in Rochester, Minn., after he had undergone heart surgery.

Born in Carthage township Aug. 5, 1909, he was a son of William J. and Erma Tilton Sherman.  He had spent most of his life in this area.  Prior to his illness, and at the time of his death, he was employed at Dadant and Sons in Hamilton.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Sherman of Basco; four daughters, Mrs. Gene (Helen) Henry, Mrs. Ronald (Joanne) Carnes, and Mrs. Richard (Donna) Grisham all of LaHarpe, and Miss Karen Sherman of Peoria; a son, Jack Sherman, also of Peoria; three sisters, Mrs. Guy (Vaneatta) Nolan of Hamilton, Mrs. Orbra (Madge) Keegan of Basco, and Mrs. Harley (Margy) Dean of Carthage; two brothers, Wendell of Huntington Park, Calif., and Donald of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren., and a number of nieces and nephews.
