Olivia Huey Scott
Dies In Hospital

In the early morning hours of May 5, 1953, The Death Angel silently came and called a loving Aunt from the cares of this world to a home not prepared by human hands but eternal in the Heavens.

Olivia Huey Scott, the youngest child of Erastus and Susan Dale Huey, was born July 28, 1874, near St. Mary's, Hancock County, Illinois.  She grew to young womanhood in the parental home, enjoying the companionship of the three brothers, Robert, Edward and Walter and two sisters, Ida, Mrs. I. N. Jeffries and Fannie, Mrs. Walter Cannon, all of whom have preceded her in death.

In young womanhood she united with the St. Marys Baptist Church, where she attended until she transferred her membership to the Denver Christian Church, where she worshiped with her husband and was a member of the Alaethia Bible Class.  As long as health permitted she regularly attended The Order of Eastern Star.

On March 5, 1900 she was married to Sir Walter Scott and they established their home in the Denver Community where many happy years were spent until the death of her husband June 6, 1947.  At that time she left her country home, and came to Carthage, where she resided about two years and then went to Quincy, where she lived until Saturday, May 2, when she was brought to Memorial Hospital where all medical aid was given.

Aunt Olivia, as she was lovingly called by not only her twelve nieces and nephews, who live to mourn her passing, but a host of friends, who will remember her sunny smile and her modest and unassuming disposition as she found life's richest satisfaction in devotion to her husband and to her sister Fannie, whose birthday was the same as hers, she being ten years younger.  The death of this sister was a severe blow to her, life never holding the pleasure for her as before.

There is a city far away
Whose streets are paved with gold,
Whose Mansions are more beautiful
Than any words have told;
Eye hath not seen a city
That's so wonderful and fair.
And those who go before us
But await our coming there.

Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Wednesday, May 6, at the Elms, with the Rev. W. C. Burk officiating.

Music was by Mrs. Junius Vance, Mrs. Albert Johnson and William Rampley.

Casket bearers were Roy Walton, William Huey, Harold Huey, Wilbur Huey, Jake Redenius and Roy Metz.  Burial was in Harmony cemetery.
