Last Rites Held for
Ellis Jane Scott
Tuesday Afternoon

Ellis Jane Belknap was born in Webster, Illinois, July 2, 1853.  She was the second child of Francis Edwin Belknap and Betsy Ann Dale Belknap in a family of eight children.  Two of these children are still living, Clara Adeline Belknap Foley of Monmouth, Illinois and Charles E. Belknap of Cedar Rapids, Ia.

On November 11, 1874 the subject of this sketch was married to Thomas D. Kimbrough.  Two children were born to this union, Lizzie, who died in infancy and Iva Mary Bruner of Galesburg, IllinoisMr. Kimbrough died May 1, 1877.

On March 7, 1880 Mrs. Kimbrough was married to Lewis Scott of Carthage.  Three children were born to this union, Charlie Ross, who died in May 1902, Edgar L. who died in May 1923, and Mrs. Bessie Noll, of Carthage.  A step-son, for whom Mrs. Scott was a loving mother lives in St. Louis, Missouri.  This is John R. Scott.  The living grandchildren are Lewis Scott, Billie Scott Noll, and a step-grandson, Harry J. Scott.

The greater portion of the life of Mrs. Scott was spent around Carthage.  From 1900 to 1912 she lived on a farm near Paris, Mo.  From 1920 to 1929 she lived in Galesburg with her daughter, Mrs. Noll.  From 1929 to 1935 she lived in St. Louis with this same daughter.

In her girlhood days Mrs. Scott united with the Christian church, and throughout her long life has remained a devoted and faithful member.  For years she was active in the Willing Workers organization and in the Missionary Society, then known as the C. W. B. M.  Her firm Christian faith sustained her to the very end.  She lived and died a hero of the glorious hope.

Funeral was held at the Elms Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Fred S. Nichols assisted by Rev. Charles Landwere officiating.  Burial at Franklin cemetery.
