William Roasa

William Roasa was born in Keokuk, Iowa, August 16, 1860, and departed this life at his home in Elvaston, Ill., June 20th, 1928, at 3:30 a. m. at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 4 days.  He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Roasa, the seventh of ten children, four sons and six daughters, all of whom have preceded him in death except one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cozad of Wyaconda, Mo.

The early part of his life was spent with his parents in Clark county, Mo.  When he was twenty years of age, he came to this community where he spent the remainder of his life.  On the 5th of October, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Heagy.  To this union five children were born.  One child, a daughter, having died in infancy.  The following children are privileged to comfort and cheer the bereaved wife and mother: Mrs. Ralph Williams, of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Fred Marshall and Mrs. Clifford Grauf and Ivan Roasa, all of Elvaston, also seven grandchildren.

Mr. Roasa was a loving husband and father.  He was a follower of Christ and at the time of his death was a member of the Presbyterian church of Elvaston.  He was also a charter member of the Elvaston Camp 315 of the Modern Woodman of America.  He served a number of terms as council of the camp.  He was held in high esteem by all who knew him.  He gave his best in his every undertaking and dealt squarely with his fellow men.

Jesus while our hearts are bleeding
O'er the spoils that death has won
We would at this solemn meeting
Calmly say thy will be done.
By Thy hand the boon was given
Thou hast taken but Thine own
Lord of earth, and God of Heaven,
   Evermore Thy will be done.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday at 2:30 p. m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. H. Heller.  There was many beautiful floral offerings, expressions of love and sympathy.  Burial was in the Elvaston cemetery.
