Leta Merle Roasa

Leta M. Roasa, 91, Weslaco, Texas, formally of Memphis, died Saturday, April 15, at her home.  She was born October 25, 1903, in Adair County, the daughter of Luther and Mary Cornell Waddill.  She married Minor C. Roasa in May of 1928 at Edina.

Roasa graduated from the Kirksville High School and Kirksville State Teachers College in 1925.  She taught science, math and coached boys and girls athletics in the Granger High School.  After moving to Memphis in 1945, she taught science in the Memphis High School.

She and her husband lived in Bethany and Kansas City before retiring to Weslaco, Texas in 1972.  She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church from a young age and a devoted wife and mother to her family.

She was preceded in death by a twin sister and one brother.

Surviving are her husband Minor, of the home, one son Luther Roasa and wife Lila of Gower, Missouri, two daughters, Willa Prather and husband, Lew of Memphis, Janis Pettigrew of Knob Noster, Missouri; one sister Jennie Spurling of Centralia, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday April 20 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis.

Pallbearers were P. C. Cotton, Jamie Riebel, Burdett Kice, Dwight DeRosear, Ronald K. Dial and John E. Luther.
