Samuel Riggens, 86,
Dies; Services Held

Samuel Sylvester Riggens, 86, a Middle Creek neighborhood farmer, died Wednesday night, August 16, at his home.  He was born in this county on December 17, 1863, a son of Jesse and Sally Ann McCubbin.  He is survived by a great nephew, Earl Lovell, whom he reared and who lived with him on the farm, where he spent his entire life.

Mr. Riggens went to school at the Oak Grove country school and furthered his education by actual experiences on the farm.  In his early manhood he joined the Oak Grove Christian church and for many years has been trustee of this church.  He was road commissioner and school trustee in Hancock township for several years and served several terms as director of Oak Grove school.  He was the eleventh child in a family of twelve and was the last surviving member.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Cookson funeral home in Plymouth with Rev. Earl Kelly officiating.  Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

The pallbearers were Minor, Edward and Earl Riggens, William and Stephen Johnson and Ernie Smith.
