Miss Martha Louise Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Scott, prominent residents of near Plymouth, became the bride of Edward Riggens, son of Cleveland Riggens of the Oak Grove neighborhood, northwest of Plymouth, in a nuptial event, June 4, that holds interest for the couple's many friends.

Feb. 28, 1925 -- May 11, 1998
Edward Lee Riggins, 73, of Carthage, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
He was born Feb. 28, 1925, at the family homestead in Carthage, the son of Minor "Cleveland" and Anna May Gillenwater Riggens. On June 4, 1947, he married Louise Scott Riggens, in the Christian Church Parsonage in Carthage. She survives.
Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. David (Linda "Fay") Watson of Poland, Ohio; two sons, Lawrence D. (and wife Jackie) Riggens of Macomb and Lonnie E. (and wife Bonnie) Riggens of Carthage; five grandchildren and two foster grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church of Carthage and had been the caretaker of the church. He was also a member of the Plymouth American Legion, the Carthage V.F.W., and was a Hancock County Township Trustee. He was a lifetime farmer in the Carthage area. He had also been employed by King-Sealey Thermos Company in Macomb and Huey's Seed Company.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, and gardening. He was an avid naturalist. He also enjoyed raising rat terrier dogs. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage, with minister Floyd Saxton officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Carthage. A full military service will be held at the grave side by Carthage V.F.W. Post #5117 and Phillip Hartzell American Legion Post #72, both of Carthage.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the funeral home in Carthage. The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Christian Church of Carthage.
