Penny Ruth Richtman Reed, 50, of Keokuk, died at 12:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1950, in New London, Conn., the daughter of Rolland Hugh and Daisy H. "Penney" Kraushaar Richtman.
Survivors include: four children, Lori Templeton of Tennessee, Mary Templeton of St. Louis, Mo., Rush Templeton of Florida and Ricky Reed of St. Francisville, Mo.; four grandchildren, Dylan Rae, Dakota William, Adrianna and Brandon Templeton; her mother, of Keokuk; a brother, Rick Richtman and his wife, Cheri, of Keokuk; a niece, Jean Stevens and her husband, Scott; two nephews, Jeff and Little Henry Richtman; and a great-niece, Skylar Stevens.
She was preceded in death by her father and a grandson, Kyle Templeton.
She particularly enjoyed telling friends of her five and one half years of living in Eaton's Neck Lighthouse on Long Island, N.Y. during the time her Coast Guard father was stationed there.
After his career in the Coast Guard, she returned to Keokuk and continued her schooling in Keokuk elementary school, Keokuk High School, graduating in 1969 and Community College.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #41; the AARP and Trinity United Methodist Church since 1962. She loved horses and tending to her flowers and yard.
Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Paul Pennington officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, following the services.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
