CommunityMrs. Martha V. Ramsey, 53, prominently known resident of Bowen, Ill., passed away at 12:20 a. m. Thursday, June 9, 1960 in Memorial hospital at Carthage. News of her demise brought a source of deep sorrow to her many friends, in fact to the entire community where she had long resided. She and her husband, William Leon Ramsey, operated the Bowen hotel and he also farms.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ramsey were held Saturday afternoon, June 11 at 2:30 at the Methodist Church in Bowen. The Rev. A. H. Sonius and the Rev. Clarence Young officiated in the final rites that were largely attended.
Mrs. Wendell DeMoss sang favorite hymns and was accompanied by Mrs. Carlin Morton, organist.
The beautiful floral tributes were mute evidence of the high regard in which the departed one was held.
Entombment was in the Bowen Abbey. Casketbearers were Truman Akers, G. T. Taylor, Glenn R. Phillips, Corliss Rand, Carol James and Elmer Eichman.

Mrs. Martha V. Ramsey, daughter of John W. and Alice Mae Huddleston Hull, was born at West Point, Hancock county, Illinois, Dec. 11, 1906. She received her education in the community of her birth, where she developed into young womanhood and was happily married to William Leon Ramsey at Bowen, June 2, 1925.
She was a member of the Bowen Methodist Church, active in the Woman's Society of Christian Service of that church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of Bowen Memorial Twig, giving of her time and talents in each organization. She was talented musically and it might well be said "she could make a piano talk."
Her kindnesses were far reaching but particularly was she devoted to her family, being truly a wonderful companion and mother.
Surviving besides the husband are a daughter, Mrs. George A. Smith of Naperville; three sons, Robert H., Gerald L. and Samuel K., all of Bowen; five grandchildren; three brothers, William M. Hull of West Point and Gerald L. Hull and Kenneth W. Hull of Peoria, and four sisters, Mrs. Esther Fuller and Mrs. Adaline Bettisworth of Quincy, Mrs. Ruby Vestre of Great Falls, Mont., and Mrs. Eleanor Junk of West Point.
They, with friends, will ever cherish her in loving memory.

Born near West Point, Dec. 11, 1906, she was a daughter of John W. and Alice Mae Huddleston Hull. She was married to William Leon Ramsey in Bowen, June 2, 1925. She and her husband operated the Bowen hotel and he also farmed.

Smith of Naperville; three sons, Robert H., Gerald L. and Samuel K., all of Bowen; five grandchildren, Rodney, Ronelle, Rusty, Rickey and Regan Ramsey; three brothers, William M. Hull of West Point, and Gerald M. Hull and Kenneth W. Hull of Peoria; and four sisters, Mrs. Esther Fuller and Mrs. Adeline Bettisworth of Quincy, Mrs. Ruby Vestre of Great Falls, Mont. and Mrs. Eleanor Junk of West Point; 15 nieces and nephews and six great nieces and nephews.
